Yesterday's Portobello Road bargain was a Zenit E SLR with a very clean 58mm f2 lens, case, instruction manual and a 1970s brochure about Russian cameras for £15; I'm going to sell the lens separately from the rest, they usually fetch £20-ish, and the camera and instructions, case, and brochure separately and hope they'll bring in a couple of quid apiece.

Today I got a 60w MagSafe charger for £6 - seems to work so should be a nice little earner - another black Mac Pro keyboard for £2, missing its escape key but otherwise in good nick and working well, and an ice cream machine for £3 - I actually only want the tub from this, since my old one began to leak copper sulphate and stopped working, but the machine is cleaner than my old one so I'm not going to complain.

Of course the original idea when I started selling stuff was to get rid of all the crap I already had, but never mind...

Do you have any idea why people want those 58/2.0 lenses? From experience of using one, they aren't that great, and they're manual presets.

Your guess is as good as mine. They seem to be reasonably sharp, beyond that I'm guessing there's some sort of weird "getting back to basics" thing similar to the whole lomography mystique. All that I know is that the similar Chinon 58/1.7 lens I put up for sale ten days ago just passed £20 with 28 watchers and more than an hour to go to the end of the auction, which means I will buy and sell anything similar that comes my way...

In the three hours since I posted it it's been looked at 23 times and already has two people watching it. The Chinon sold for £22.59 plus postage to Spain. So there's obviously some demand. To the point where a few weeks back I spent four quid on ten Chinese 42mm rear caps and ten 52mm front caps, since most of these lenses use them.

And had a bid after 4 hours.
