Subject:USB charging stations?
Time:01:46 am
Can anyone recommend a multi-socket USB charger station? I would prefer at least four sockets, the main things I will be keeping charged all the time are my iPad and iPhone, plus occasionally my nook, iPad keyboard, portable Wifi hub, etc. so not a huge amount of power consumption but safety and clean power are essential.

Any recommendations that won't break the bank?

Update - following numerous recommendations I've bought one of the Anker chargers - I've gone for the 5-port version since I shouldn't need more than three or four at a time, and it's more compact than the 10-port one.

Never yet found a multi which successfully allowed me to actually use more than two ports, so I gave up looking. Not seen any for almost a year now. I have a laptop now which has three ports on one side, with another on the other side.

I will ask in the computer shop here in Blairgowrie, as the owner is something of a Ninja with computer repair, and may be able to help.

And I realise I have misread the question, but I'll still go by the shop tomorrow to ask on your behalf.

Thanks - if it helps at all, I'm not looking for portability particularly, I just want to reduce the clutter and charge things without having to leave my computer switched on all the time.

Listening to Cerys Matthews' live christmas day show while I still can. I'll be heading to the computer shop about half two. I'll get back to you as soon as I can after that. Hope I can help.

This is me handing over to John for you :-

Anything above 4 (5 on some low power devices) ports usually requires its own power source i.e. 12v wall socket. There are a few apple alternatives which are pretty good and if it's not a sort-of Hub/Stand combi thing you are looking for then Anker do a range of 5, 6 & 10 port USB-power hubs, all certified 'Multi-protect' safe (whatever that means :-P) . Although I usually don't like providing links to Amazon, ever since they've gotten like alibaba (selling cheap Chinese rubbish), sticking with known good brand names is usually a safe bet. So here's a 10-port I quickly looked up
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Compact-10-Port-Anker-PowerPort-Charging/dp/B00YSA0WI8

I hope this helps a little. :-)

Now back to Ray.

Hope that's helpful Bits 'n' Bytes email is info@bitsnbytes.computer

Good luck,
kerk

10 is possibly overkill, but that's a good price, something in that range should do me nicely. Thanks!

The Anker line is my absolute go-to for these. I have a pair of 6 port units: one for the travel bag, one for my bedside table. They're multi-voltage multi-frequency and appear to be available in the UK.

Thanks for the recommendation - I too have been considering this problem, and had been eying the Anker range. It's useful to know someone's used them and likes them.

PortaPow are worth a look (http://www.portablepowersupplies.co.uk/). Don't know how they compare to Anker, but I've been very pleased with everything of theirs I've used.

Looks like the total power output is a bit on the low side, but thanks anyway.
