Appsgonefree is a free iPad app that identifies apps that are temporarily available free of charge. I've only installed it today and there isn't anything I currently want in the apps it lists, but it could be quite useful if it works as advertised.

Later - don't want to go too wild with this, but I've already found

Nodebeat HD - a really nice little music generator that's sort of a moog meets theremin idea
ProTuner - a thing for tuning musical instruments (not for me, but my brother-in-law can use it)
Prompts - a thing for helping you by adding random phrases if you get blocked writing
