Subject:Curious lack of Dr. Who Reaction Posts...
Time:09:50 pm
...so I may as well start the ball rolling.

I enjoyed it. A lot of unanswered questions, such as why aren't the planes being left behind in the Earth's orbit as time goes on around them, but it sort of worked as an idea. It's pretty obvious that the Doctor is not going to let Davros die in the past, that won't actually help much (unless he wants to see the whole universe eaten by paradox monsters), so I'm guessing that he's going to save the boy, try to improve his life etc., but fail miserably.

As for Missy, she's obviously used the vortex manipulator to rescue herself, Clara, and the TARDIS, but the details should be interesting. Looking forward to seeing how it comes out, and what (if anything happens to the tank, the sudden introduction of the word "Dude!" etc.

There will probably be more spoilers in comments if any.

I enjoyed it too. My one real complaint is that, as often happens nowadays, the background music made it difficult to hear some of the dialogue.

I didn't think it was as bad as is sometimes the case, but I agree it could be better.

Funny, I listen to music all the time, and I almost never notice the background music in the episodes. The only thing I remember from last night was the guitar feedback. And was the a variant of the Dr Who theme he was playing?

This was my main problem. I couldn't hear a lot of what was going on and a lot of the dialogue. Really fed up with the BBC who never seem to learn from previous mistakes.

As a BBC employee I can tell you that SOMETIMES we learn. I remember a training thang where we were told that complaints about background music were the #1 complaint the BBC received. And how some drama got so many that they actually pulled the transmission tapes and re-dubbed the sound before episode 2 went out.

On the other hand, you normally do your final mix in a dubbing suite with state of the art kit, not on a clapped out household telly. Plus everyone there can recite the narration/dialogue in their sleep but that point. They need to get more age-related hearing loss oldies like me to attend and shout "What?" now and then!

Nice to see classic daleks back.

Very fan-servicey. Even the heavy weapons dalek got a look in.

Bow down before the Special Weapons Dalek, unbeliever!

It's a shame they didn't mount their uber gun on the special weapons dalek.

Though I'm not sure why the Daleks thought they finally had a laser big enough to zap the Tardis?

I'm assuming they didn't. But maybe they did and the next episdoe will be the Doctor changing the past to save Clara and the tardis.

It was an opportunity missed, not having the SWD delivering the coup de grace...

I agree, though - massive Dalek overconfidence on display. I suspect they'll be feeling less in control of the situation by the end of next week's episode.

Somewhere there was a committee meeting, 'Do we have to invite SWD?' 'Yeah, we do, SWD never gets invited to anything. Let him come to this.'

I take it both of you have seen Second Empire, the Dalek webcomic, now complete?

If not you really ought to.

Yes, really felt like watching some of the early serials there on Skaro.

I especially liked the Dalek-shaped doors as seen in the original Daleks serial back in 1963

It had the feel of the tv movies too.

Although I'm not sure why there was so much OMG SKARO! OMGOMGOMG! going on, when that trial of the daleks episode from a couple of seasons ago, they had Skaro in that, and it wasn't a huge deal.

The lack of reaction posts is because everyone is at WriterCon and we ate straight after Who finished; by the time we'd eaten most of us were too stuffed to have the energy to post.

It does seem like they've decided to make her a series regular - maybe she'll end up as a companion!

It was a slam bang opener, to be sure. I thought that the devastated world with the strangely mixed level of technology and the hand-bombs popping out of the earth was enough to be going on with. And then he went and dropped the boy's name. All that before the opening titles.

There were small bum notes, especially the three week party bit, but on the whole it was spectacular. I think exterior views of the 'space station' and then the city were intended to be similar to the city in the first Dalek story but I could be wrong.

There are lots of unanswered questions, indeed. I can't help feeling that answers will mostly end up being unspoken or being stupid when they are given but that's just me being a pessimist.

One that bothers me was: what was Missy looking at her hand so significantly for when they escaped from the cell?

And I believe we will come to see that the 'friend' he speaks of is neither Missy nor Clara....

My guess, the vortex manipulator or some instrument. I'm sure we'll find out sooner or later.
