A thought on this week's Elementary and science fiction

I can't help wondering if some of the early privately run space colonies will be along the lines of the survivalist colony described in this week's episode of Elementary:

[A BIG spoiler!]A total scam with most of the supplies, life support, equipment etc. fakes designed to part investors and clients from their money.
