UPDATE - Amazingly, I called this morning and the engineer turned up at 1 PM and (pause to knock wood) fixed it. One thing that amused me (and usually does whenever I see a new engineer) is that he blamed the previous guy for the problem. I suspect that the next guy will blame him, and so forth...
