So Dr Who did their take on VICTORIANS IN SPAAAAAACE! and on the whole it worked pretty well. Some obvious questions about the back story of the two senior British officers went unanswered, but I suppose you can explain it as records getting lost or assuming a new identity.

And next week they're doing The Eagle of the Ninth, with added tentacles...

It was a lot of fun. It made me realise that fun had been in rather short supply in recent episodes. This story came as something of a welcome relief. The only slight disappointment was that the titular "Empress of Mars" turned out to be an ice warrior rather than a promoted Dejah Thoris. :)

Dr. Who has way too much history in the Ice Warriors as the only Martians, but it would be VERY cool...

1881 too. :)

I didn't understand the exchange with Missy at the end though.

I'm obviously missing something - the only other episode I remember with this date is the OK Corral one.

Not sure what the Missy thing is about either.

Oh I'm probably misremembering then, I thought there was a victorian RPG set in the year 1881. With redcoats on Mars.

Space 1889 is the one you're thinking of, I expect. I largely wrote Forgotten Futures on the back of being annoyed because the publishers cut a scenario I wrote for them by about a third without warning me.

But there isn't anything especially significant about 1881 in the Space 1889 timeline, it's a couple of years after the invention of space travel and various colonial things are happening on Mars, but nothing especially notable.
