The 3rd service engineer visit is now scheduled for the 29th, e.g. 21 days since it went wrong and 18 since I called it in. REALLY not impressed.

Fortunately I have helpful neighbours downstairs and I've done a couple of washes in their machine.

That sounds like really terrible customer service. Is it the manufacturer's service department that's screwing up like this, or are you dealing with some sort of generalized repair service?

The latter - they do most of the contract servicing in London, I think.

So (a) they don't have any competitors you could turn to and (b) if you changed brands you'd probably still be dealiing with them? (Not that buying a new washing machine seems like a very affordable way to deal with poor service in any case.) That sounds like an invitation to what economists call "market failure." My sympathies.
