FF X and Rules PDF

I've spent most of the day working on Forgotten Futures X, and also decided to do something I've been putting off for a while - converting the big revised set of game rules to PDF, and putting it on line as a free download. While there have been PDF versions for a while, they're based on the first version of the rules and don't include a lot of the background stuff I added in the last revision.

Made a good start on that this evening - got the first third or so reformatted, which is basically all of the main game rules and a big chunk of the stuff on role playing. Hopefully I'll get the rest done tomorrow. The full monte looks to run to 100+ pages, my first bash at making a PDF came out at a bit over a megabyte which isn't too bad. This is undoubtedly because the illustrations are all pretty small.

FF X is going pretty well, I've made pictures to illustrate the stories, written the introduction, and got a few paragraphs into the text describing real-world and fictional clubs. What I'm trying to avoid is huge swaths of stuff cut and pasted from Wikipaedia and other web sites; it'd be easy enough to do it that way, but I'm not convinced the results would be worth it. Probably better to use my own words, keep things brief, and add links to Wikipaedia etc. where relevant.

So - a certain amount of progress has been made, and hopefully I'll have some of the more interesting stuff ready to post for comments in the next week or two.

Charity shop update, Fridge/Freezer

Today's charity shop finds were The Matrix collector's edition (the two disk set with Matrix and Matrix Revisited) and Team America World Police, at £1.50 each, which I think is pretty good. I've never bought The Matrix on DVD because I have the first one on tape and wasn't so keen on the second. I never bought Team America because I'm not a huge fan of that sort of humour. But I would have gone to say £3.00 each for them so I'm certainly not complaining.

I forgot to mention that I bought a new fridge/freezer a couple of days ago, unfortunately they can't deliver until Tuesday, which means I'll be forced to skive off on the morning of the second day back at work... Not a huge problem, except that their truck turned up at 8.30 AM today to collect my old fridge and freezer, and I had to tell them no way - someone's screwed up because they're supposed to be removed when the new unit comes. I'll phone tomorrow and make sure that everything's properly organized. Meanwhile I'm living on frozen food, in an effort to get down to an amount that'll fit in my sister's freezer overnight, since they won't remove the fridge and freezer unless they're defrosted. I may also take some stuff in to work on Monday and leave it in the freezer there until I've got the new one up and running - doubt my sister will want to look after the frozen mice I've got for the snakes, for example, even thought they're in three layers of bags.

Fun fun fun...

Later edit: Less good news - that DVD I gave away a few days ago turned up broken. I had to send it in a pouch because the plastic case wouldn't fit in the jiffy bags I have, and some bugger must have snapped it in transit. I must have sent out hundreds of CDs that way without problems. Bastard post office.

Full rules PDF beta on line

I've put my first attempt at converting the latest incarnation of the Forgotten Futures rules to PDF on line. 104 pages, about a 1.5mb download

At the moment there aren't any working links to chapters etc., I'll be adding them once I'm happy with the layout and sure I haven't got any horrible errors. The final version will also have a front cover, once I've decided what illustration to use, probably a full-page character sheet of some sort, and some advertising at the end for the FF CD-ROM, Diana & Elvis, Flatland, etc. and a back cover I've a feeling that the front cover will end up with one of my usual pictures, either the lovely Zaidie Redgrave (except that she's already inside next to the introduction, the cover as well may be too much of a good thing) or an airship battle from The Angel of the Revolution.

For now, though, I just want to know that it's all readable; if you have time to take a look and spot any problems please let me know
