I've got my "new" bike, a D-reg BMW K75 with 51K on the clock. It's a model that's sometimes called a "brick," from the shape of the engine. First impressions from a test run and ride up and down the Westway and around a few very busy streets, in light rain and poor light, is that it's a heavy bike but handles about as well as my previous R80 (the one that had a full fairing) and out-performs both of my last two bikes on acceleration and comfort. It helps that it has fairly new tyres.
It will take a little getting used to, some of the secondary controls such as the indicators etc. are very different to the old Boxers, but I think it's going to be a lot of fun under better conditions. It's cost me only £175 more than I got for the old bike, but I've needed to spend £50 on transferring my insurance to it, and it will need some luggage, probably another £100 for that if I get lucky. I'm expecting a cheap top box tomorrow, and will add panniers as I can - it has a BMW pannier rack which is a good starting point. I have some horrible Krauser panniers I can put on temporarily, but I'd probably end up fixing them on with a bodge of wire, cable ties, and gaffer tape since I don't want to risk weakening the BMW rack. There's no urgency once I have at least the top box fitted, so I can try to hold out for bargains.
Anyway, here's some Bike Pron, originally on the dealer's site, carefully angled to make the bike look as good as possible, but it genuinely does seem to be a nice bike. I'm just knocking wood that there are no horrible faults waiting to emerge.( Collapse )
