Flatland Wargame

Matthew Hartley, author of Tusk, Riot, and other wargames, has written me a three-page Flatland war game, which arrived this afternoon and I'm in the process of adding to the RPG - I've done the text, I'm now designing the counters from his notes. Looks to have just enough complexity for most wargamers while being simple enough for a beginner to pick up fairly easily, it's played on a chess board with dice and playing cards as randomizers. I think it's a definite plus for the game, takes the book to 70+ pages including the novel which is rather more than I had in mind, but I think it's definitely going to be an asset.

Here are the main units - I've done each of them for the red and black armies.

Soldiers can fight hand to hand only. Regular soldiers have guns. Officers have Cannon and do the command and control stuff. Cavalry have speed but no guns. Think it's a reasonably good balance of forces with the rules he's given me.

Now working on terrain markers and stuff. Ought to be fun.
